Itinerary Description:
Day 1: Rongai Gate to Simba Camp
Start Point: Nalemoru Gate (1,950m)
End Point: Simba Camp (2,625m)
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Habitat: Montane forest
You begin on the northern side of Mount Kilimanjaro near the Kenyan border. The trail passes through forest where you may spot colobus monkeys. A steady climb leads to Simba Camp with great views of the plains below.
Day 2: Simba Camp to Second Cave Camp
Start Point: Simba Camp (2,625m)
End Point: Second Cave Camp (3,450m)
Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
Habitat: Moorland
The trail becomes more open, offering stunning views of Kibo Peak. You pass First Cave and continue gradually uphill to Second Cave Camp.
Day 3: Second Cave to Kikelewa Camp
Start Point: Second Cave (3,450m)
End Point: Kikelewa Camp (3,600m)
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Habitat: Moorland
A shorter day to aid acclimatization. The route becomes steeper toward the end, with impressive views and unique alpine vegetation.
Day 4: Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp
Start Point: Kikelewa Camp (3,600m)
End Point: Mawenzi Tarn (4,330m)
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Habitat: Alpine desert
You climb to Mawenzi Tarn, a beautiful campsite beneath the rugged spires of Mawenzi Peak. This is one of the most scenic camps on Kilimanjaro.
Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Hut
Start Point: Mawenzi Tarn (4,330m)
End Point: Kibo Hut (4,700m)
Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
Habitat: Alpine desert
A long trek across the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Prepare for summit night with an early dinner and rest.
Day 6: Summit Day – Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak, then down to Horombo Hut
Start Point: Kibo Hut (4,700m)
Summit: Uhuru Peak (5,895m)
End Point: Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Marangu Gate (1,860m)
Hiking Time: 10–14 hours total
You start just after midnight. The climb to Gilman’s Point is steep and demanding, followed by a gradual trek to the summit — Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
After celebrating, descend to Horombo Hut for overnight.

Final descent through rainforest, where you receive your summit certificates.
